**Umbrigen (Custom Species for D&D 5e 2024 Rules)**
_"Shaped not by blood, but by fracture. Born of nowhere. Bound to none."_

**Creature Type:** Humanoid
**Size:** Medium
**Speed:** 30 ft.

### Dual True Forms
You possess two true forms—one humanoid and one monstrous. You may shift between these forms as a **bonus action**.
#### Monstrous Form
This is your original body: horned, elongated, and clawed—created to survive, terrify, and feed.
While in this form:
- Your unarmed strikes deal **1d6 slashing damage** (claws). You are proficient with this attack, and it uses **Dexterity** for attack and damage rolls. These are considered natural melee weapons with the finesse trait.
- You gain a **bite attack** that deals **1d6 piercing damage**, increasing to **1d8 at 5th level**, **1d10 at 11th level**, and **1d12 at 17th level**. You are proficient with this attack, and it uses **Dexterity** for attack and damage rolls. This is considered a natural melee weapon with the finesse trait.
- You gain **Darkvision** out to 60 feet and **natural armor**, giving you an AC of 13 + your Dexterity modifier while not wearing armor.
- You have **advantage on Intimidation checks** made against creatures that can see your monstrous form.
- You cannot wear armor or clothing not tailored to this form. However, you may shift **individual parts** of your body (such as an arm, leg, or hand) into monstrous form while otherwise remaining in your settled or mimic form. These partial transformations allow access to claw or bite attacks and intimidation advantages, but do not grant full benefits of the monstrous form.
This form is physical and natural—it cannot be dispelled, disguised by illusions, or suppressed by anti-magic fields.
#### Settled Form
A humanoid shape that stabilizes over time, typically leaning male or female based on your emotional attachments and internal identity.
- You can wear armor and use gear normally.
- You are recognized as your default outward identity in this form.
---
### Mimetic Consumption
You can consume a creature you have personally slain within the last hour to mimic its appearance.
- This process takes 10 minutes and requires part of the creature's brain or spine.
- You may mimic a Medium creature’s **appearance, voice, posture, and scent**, but not its traits, abilities, or memories.
- The transformation lasts **6 weeks**, or until you end it as a bonus action.
- You can store **only one mimic form** at a time. Consuming another replaces the previous.
**Language Retention:**
Each time you mimic a new creature, you permanently learn **one spoken language** it knew.
You regain the use of this feature after a **long rest**.
---
### Instinctive Savant
You were made to adapt, deceive, and survive.
- You gain **proficiency in Deception and Survival**.
- Once per short or long rest, you may gain **advantage** on one Deception or Survival check.
---
### Fractured Cognition
Your brain is forged for reaction, not reflection.
- You have **disadvantage on Intelligence (History)** checks unless aided by written records or another creature.
- You have **advantage on saving throws** against being _Charmed_ or _Dominated_.
---
### Convergence-Forged
You were born into cold.
- You are **resistant to cold damage**.
- You are **immune to the effects of extreme cold weather**.
---
### Languages
- You begin knowing **Common** and **one additional language** of your choice.
- Each time you mimic a new creature, you permanently learn **one language** that creature knew.
---
**Optional Feat: Umbrigen Evolution**
_Prerequisite: Umbrigen species_
- You can store **two mimic forms** and switch between them as a bonus action.
- You may replicate **one minor feature** of the mimicked creature (e.g., darkvision, swim speed; DM approval required).
- You regain the use of Mimetic Consumption on a **short or long rest**.
- Additionally, if you drink at least 1 pint of a creature's blood (willing or subdued), you may mimic its form for up to **24 hours**. This version of mimicry is less potent—it does not count as full Mimetic Consumption, and you cannot retain the form beyond that day. You still gain the creature's language permanently. This option does not refresh your Mimetic Consumption use.
