# Dark Tower of Coalveil
## Overview
The Dark Tower is an ancient, partially ruined fortress located in the cursed Coalveil region, west of the [[Deadwood Glades]]. Surrounded by a dense expanse of twisted trees and overgrown wilderness, it has long been a place of dread. Villages in the surrounding area speak of missing children, strange lights, and creatures moving in the night. It is one of the most dangerous and mysterious sites in South Angoria.
**Location:** Coalveil Region, northwest of the [[Deadwood Glades]]
**Known For:** Ancient necromantic history, demonic activity, hidden lower levels, and being the rumored resting place of the Blackrazor sword.
## Physical Description
The tower itself still stands tall despite being thousands of years old, though most of its upper floors have collapsed. The ruin’s jagged silhouette looms above the surrounding cursed forest.
### Aboveground
- The upper structure contains shattered battlements, crumbling stairs, and partially collapsed chambers.
- Weathered stone walls are etched with ancient necromantic runes, many still faintly glowing.
- The entrance is guarded by lingering demonic sentinels that emerged after the portal breach.
### Belowground
- Beneath the tower are vast chambers and tunnels—remnants of the original fortress complex.
- Some passages are choked with rubble, but hidden routes remain that bypass the destruction.
- The deepest vaults radiate immense magical residue from both necromantic and infernal sources.
## History
- **Ancient Era:** Built by a powerful necromancer thousands of years ago, intended as both a fortress and laboratory for dark magic.
- **The Lich’s End:** The necromancer was slain before completing his transformation into a lich. His work, however, left deep scars on the land.
- **Layline Nexus:** The tower stands upon a critical intersection of magical laylines. This nexus allows [[Anam]] to manipulate the area and potentially open new portals.
- **The Demon Incursion:** In recent history, a necromancer wielding the Book of Vile Deeds reopened a portal in the tower’s depths, allowing demons to raid surrounding villages. A party of adventurers killed him and sealed the portal—though the deeper levels remain tainted.
## Connection to the [[Deadwood Glades]]
The [[Deadwood Glades]] lies southeast of the tower, its fey corruption enhanced by the tower’s lingering necromantic residue. While the two phenomena are not directly linked, the overlapping magic makes the surrounding area unpredictable and highly dangerous.
## Current Threats
- **Demons:** Though the main portal was closed, smaller breaches still allow demonic creatures to enter.
- **Curses:** Anyone staying too long near the tower risks illness, madness, or magical mutation.
- **Undead:** Remnants of the original necromancer’s army still patrol the depths.
- **[[Anam]]’s Plan:** [[Anam]] seeks to exploit the tower’s laylines and hidden chambers as a covert route for a demonic assault on the Open Lands and Grasslands.
## Blackrazor’s Presence
Legends say the Blackrazor sword lies within the lowest chamber of the Dark Tower, hidden in an obsidian sarcophagus. Its origins predate the necromancer himself, and it may be bound to the layline nexus. [[Anam]] covets it for his schemes.
## Adventure Hooks
- Explore the ruined upper levels to locate the hidden passage into the lower chambers.
- Discover how the Blackrazor is tied to the layline nexus and [[Anam]]’s larger plans.
- Confront the demonic presence before it can be rallied into a larger assault.
- Recover the Book of Vile Deeds, lost again in the lower depths.
- Seal or realign the laylines to weaken [[Anam]]’s hold on the region.
